Jupiter DEX Trading Strategies: Limit Orders, DCA, and Perps

Effective Jupiter DEX trading strategies come down to using its full toolkit: limit orders, dollar-cost averaging (DCA), and perpetuals, all available in one place on Solana. One user switched from Coinbase because of its much higher fees and now trades exclusively on Jupiter. The platform aggregates Solana DEXs like Orca and Raydium and routes your trades through them to get the best price on SPL-20 tokens.

Fine-tune your execution settings manually. With a small bankroll, such as 1 SOL, users recommend keeping slippage tight and setting a price impact warning at 1 to 2 percent so a low liquidity pair does not wreck you. For perpetuals, liquidity comes from the Jupiter Liquidity Provider (JLP) token supplied by other users, so Jupiter itself is not taking the opposite side of your trade.

Perp trading creates bookkeeping work: opens, closes, and liquidations often look like ordinary on-chain wallet activity, so you need to categorize them manually for accurate tax reporting. A practical fix is to use Jupiter's internal perp history to work out closed positions and realized PnL, then reflect that in your tracker. On strategy itself, users warn that meme coin trading is negative expected value, especially with limited capital, and suggest buying BTC and holding for a few years instead. They also note that terminals like Photon and Axiom charge their own higher fees while often routing through Jupiter anyway, so trading on Jupiter directly can be cheaper.

Key strategies

  1. Limit orders Set entries and exits in advance instead of trading at market price.
  2. Dollar-cost averaging Split a buy into chunks to average your entry price over time.
  3. Perpetuals Trade perps with liquidity supplied by the JLP token from other users.
  4. Aggregated routing Jupiter scans Orca, Raydium, and other Solana DEXs for the best price on SPL-20 tokens.
  5. Manual slippage and price impact control Keep slippage tight on small trades and set a price impact warning at 1 to 2 percent.
  6. Perp history PnL tracking Use closed positions and realized PnL from Jupiter's history for taxes and record keeping.
  7. Skip meme coins Users treat meme trading as negative expected value and prefer buying BTC for a multi-year hold.
  8. Trade direct instead of through terminals Photon and Axiom add their own fees while frequently routing through Jupiter anyway.

Utilizing Jupiter's Features

Access diverse trading tools: Jupiter provides limit orders, DCA, and perpetuals all in one place, which is a significant advantage for traders. "Once i found jupiter, that is the only thing that i am using for trading. Before that i was using coinbase which has very high trading fees compared to jupiter. It comes with limit order, dca, perp. Everything in one place."
Optimize for Solana-based tokens: Jupiter is specifically designed for the Solana ecosystem, aggregating multiple DEXs like Orca and Raydium to route trades for the best price on SPL-20 tokens. "Jupiter is for Solana and trading SPL-20 tokens. So it's different from Uniswap in the sense that Uni is for ERC-20 based tokens. Also, it is an aggregator, so it trawls the multiple DEX's on Solana (Orca, Raydium, etc.) and routes trades through them to get the best price"
Manually adjust fees and slippage: Users can fine-tune their trading parameters, such as slippage tolerance, which is crucial for managing price impact, especially with low-liquidity pairs. "Jupiter for everything axiom and photon route through jup half the time anyway so you're just paying extra fees on top with 1 sol you want to keep slippage tight and jup lets you set that manually. Also set a price impact warning at like 1-2% so you don't get wrecked on a low liquidity pair"

Navigating Perpetual Trading

Understand the role of liquidity providers: In perp trading on Jupiter, liquidity comes from Jupiter Liquidity Provider (JLP) tokens, which are supplied by other users, not directly by Jupiter taking the opposite side of the trade. "If you’re wondering where the liquidity comes from it comes from the JLP token the Jupiter liquidity provider token which you can buy."
Categorize transactions for tax purposes: Perpetual trades, including opens, closes, and liquidations, often appear as regular wallet activity on-chain, requiring manual categorization for accurate tax reporting. "Jupiter perps can be messy because opens / closes / liquidations often just look like normal wallet activity on-chain."
Utilize Jupiter's perp history for PnL: To accurately track profit and loss from perpetuals, it's helpful to use Jupiter's internal perp history to work out closed positions and realized PnL. "More exact: use Jupiter’s perp history to work out closed positions / realized PnL, then reflect that in your tracker"

General Trading Considerations

Beware of meme coin trading: Trading meme coins, especially with limited capital, is generally considered a negative expected value strategy. "Don't even mess with memes. Buy BTC and forget for 2-3 years."
Compare fees with other platforms: While Jupiter offers competitive fees, it's important to compare them with other DEXs or trading terminals, as some alternatives may charge higher fees while still routing through Jupiter. "Photon and axiom are "trading bots/terminals" that have their own higher fees and often end up routing thru jup anyway."

Are you interested in specific strategies for Jupiter's perpetuals or spot trading?

Bottom line

Jupiter DEX offers various trading features like limit orders, DCA (Dollar-Cost Averaging), and perpetuals, making it a comprehensive platform for trading on the Solana blockchain.

Are trades processed faster directly in Phantom or going thru a platform like Jupiter to trade?

Hi,

Trading is a zero sum game. In the tradfi world, brokers usually hold the opposite side of the position. However for DEX which is decentralized like Jupiter, who hold the opposite side of the trade? For example; when I hold a long SOL perp position, who's holding a short SOL perp position? Jupiter? If that's the case, isn't risky for DEX? If too many of their perp users win, DEX would lose, right?

  • Jupiter → 2% cashback (non-VIP)
  • OKX Card (non-VIP) → 2% cashback com spread muito baixo (~0,1%)
  • Trading 212 → 1,5% cashback + quase zero spread + juros no saldo

Agradeço as experiências e opiniões. Obrigado!

Once i found jupiter, that is the only thing that i am using for trading. Before that i was using coinbase which has very high trading fees compared to jupiter. It comes with limit order, dca, perp. Everything in one place. You can also contribute to liquidity pool and earn percentage fees.

If u stake ur jup u get a % of their fees

If you must, Jupiter is good and you can manually adjust your fees. Photon and axiom are "trading bots/terminals" that have their own higher fees and often end up routing thru jup anyway.

Word of advice from someone who though the same thing as you in late 2024. Don't even mess with memes. Buy BTC and forget for 2-3 years. If you are going to trade memes with one sol, buy in 0.05 (or less) clips and clip out when you're up. Small profits are better than none.

But honestly just do your research. Memes are negative EV especially right now.

AMM usually holds a large pool of coins, small buy/sell orders would not make a huge impact, and there are arbitragers rebalance the pool against exchanges

There is no easy way. You have to review each transaction on blockchain and categorize them properly. Summ did a good job exporting all your transactions so you just need to categorize them

I used koinly to keep track of my transactions. Perp trades have to be manually edited to realized profit. The software does a good job if keeping track of profit and loss, and I just paid long term capital gains on what it said my total profits were, from perp trades, swaps and income from defi.

Jupiter perps can be messy because opens / closes / liquidations often just look like normal wallet activity on-chain. Two practical options:

  • Quick: tag opens / closes as realized PnL
  • More exact: use Jupiter’s perp history to work out closed positions / realized PnL, then reflect that in your tracker

Worth importing everything into your crypto tax calculator first so you can review it all in one place. Focus on getting your net PnL right

So, I'm 17 n I've just been growing my capital for the past few months all the way from 5 dollars to a 100. So, I thought it was bout time I give this memecoin thingy a try. I've got low capital ≈1 sol

Can sm1 recommend me a trusted dex? I've got axiom, jupiter, photon in mind but really not sure which 1 to go with.

So I did some perp trading with SOL on Jupiter last year and I’m trying to figure out how to do my taxes. I read other post about using SUMM, so I uploaded my Solana wallet to SUMM but a majority of my transactions need to be reviewed and “categorized.” Is there an easy way of seeing which of my past Solana transactions were positions opened, position closed, or position liquidated? Or just an easy way of doing allllll this!

It's an aggregator of DEX like 1inch. Also recently a launchpad.

Jupiter for everything axiom and photon route through jup half the time anyway so you're just paying extra fees on top with 1 sol you want to keep slippage tight and jup lets you set that manually. Also set a price impact warning at like 1-2% so you don't get wrecked on a low liquidity pair

No, you’re actually thinking about this completely wrong just because you went long doesn’t mean that anybody else went short. What happens when you go long is your borrowing someone’s money to buy Solana and paying them a fee if you lose money, they still make money if you make money, they still make money.

Hey everyone, I'm curious about the Jupiter DEX and how it compares to other popular options.

While I've seen Uniswap, Pancakeswap, and 1inch around for a while, Jupiter seems like a newer player. What are the key differences between Jupiter and these established DEXs?

Here's the thing: unlike the others, Jupiter operates on the Solana blockchain. This means it functions differently compared to the established DEXs.

Interestingly, the native tokens of the other DEXs (UNI, CAKE) are not showing any strenght after the peak.

So, I'm curious to hear from the community:

What makes Jupiter stand out from these other DEXs?

Are there any specific features or advantages that draw you towards Jupiter, especially considering the price movements of other DEX tokens?

- Optimize for Solana-based tokens: Jupiter is specifically designed for the Solana ecosystem, aggregating multiple DEXs like Orca and Raydium to route trades for the best price on SPL-20 tokens.
- Manually adjust fees and slippage: Users can fine-tune their trading parameters, such as slippage tolerance, which is crucial for managing price impact, especially with low-liquidity pairs.
If you’re wondering where the liquidity comes from it comes from the JLP token the Jupiter liquidity provider token which you can buy.

Related questions

Is Jupiter DEX good for trading?
Users rate it highly because it combines limit orders, DCA, and perpetuals in one place with lower fees than Coinbase. As a Solana aggregator, it routes trades across DEXs like Orca and Raydium to find the best price on SPL-20 tokens.
What slippage settings should I use on Jupiter?
With a small amount like 1 SOL, keep slippage tight and adjust it manually since Jupiter lets you set it yourself. Also set a price impact warning at around 1 to 2 percent to avoid getting wrecked on a low liquidity pair.
Where does liquidity come from for Jupiter perpetuals?
Liquidity comes from the Jupiter Liquidity Provider (JLP) token, which you can buy. Other users supply this liquidity rather than Jupiter directly taking the opposite side of your trade.
How do I track Jupiter perp trades for taxes?
Perp opens, closes, and liquidations often look like normal wallet activity on-chain, so you have to categorize them manually. Use Jupiter's perp history to work out closed positions and realized PnL, then reflect that in your tracker.
Is Jupiter cheaper than Photon or Axiom?
Usually yes. Photon and Axiom are trading terminals with their own higher fees, and they often end up routing through Jupiter anyway, so you pay extra on top by using them.
Should I trade meme coins on Jupiter?
Users generally advise against it, calling meme coin trading negative expected value with limited capital. The suggested alternative is to buy BTC and hold for 2 to 3 years.
