I recently checked to optimize swapping some major tokens (wstETH, rETH...) and I wanted to provide them to a liquidity pool ; instead of paying 0.5% fees, I get the fees.
But... TVL of few thousands dollars? Really?
pancakeswap finance/liquidity/pools?network=1&search=wstETH : $62 USD of TVL on wstETH/WETH pool.

I wanted to share my liquidity pool (LP) strategy. I often see people asking about pools, how they work, and how impermanent loss affects their positions, but I rarely see people sharing their actual strategies. There are many ways to make and lose money with LPs, so this is how I approach it.
English is my second language, I used AI to help me with both translations and transcription.
The Strategy
I divide the market into two obvious phases: bull and bear markets. During a bull market, I want exposure to cryptocurrencies. During a bear market, I want to protect my capital and de-risk my positions.
Since we cannot predict exactly when a bull or bear market starts—just like we can't perfectly time tops and bottoms—we need a few indicators to help us understand where we are in the market cycle. I use the 200 EMA on the daily chart, combined with the MACD and RSI.
Bull Market Signal: When the price of ETH (for example) closes above the 200 EMA with a positive MACD and a rising RSI, I consider that the start of a bull market.
Bear Market Signal: When the price closes below the 200 EMA on the daily chart, I consider that the start of a bear market.
Phase 1: At the Start of the Bull Market
Lend: I buy blue-chip crypto (BTC, ETH, or SOL) and lend them on a protocol like Aave.
Borrow: I borrow stablecoins against that collateral. I keep it conservative, maintaining a borrowing ratio around 40–50% to avoid liquidation risk.
Deploy: I swap those borrowed stables to buy more crypto and open a WIDE crypto-to-crypto LP position (e.g., ETH-BTC, ETH-SOL, etc.).
Yield: The earned fees are not compounded back into the pool; instead, they are continuously deposited into Aave as stablecoins.
The Logic: I expect prices to rise. If my pool were a crypto-stable pair (like ETH/USDC), my upside would be capped at the top because I'd get entirely converted into stables. By using a crypto-to-crypto pool, I still profit as the market runs up because the LP converts into the lagging crypto asset, which is still appreciating in value.
The Exit: Once we are near the top of the bull market (again, you can't predict it perfectly), I close the LP, exit entirely to USDC, pay back my borrowed debt, and deposit the remaining stables back into Aave to earn interest.
Optional: Depending on market conditions, I might also sell my lent collateral. If ETH skyrocketed to $10k, I would probably sell it all, lol.
Phase 2: At the Start of the Bear Market
Short via Borrowing: I borrow crypto against my lent stablecoins and immediately sell it for stables.
Deploy: I use a portion of those stables to open a WIDE crypto-stable LP position.
Yield: Just like before, the earned fees are deposited back into Aave.
The Logic: Because I expect prices to drop, holding a borrow position on Aave effectively acts as a short. Limiting spot crypto exposure during a bear market is a must—as we all know, the downside in crypto is brutal.
The Exit: Once we approach what looks like the bottom, I close the loop. I buy back the crypto at a heavy discount to pay off my debt, collect the accumulated crypto from the pool, and get ready to start the entire process over again.

5. The tokens themselves
You can have perfect liquidity, high volume, low fees, and great APR - but if one of the tokens in the pair is a scam or rugpull waiting to happen, none of that matters.
Here's how I prioritize (from 12 years in crypto):
Tier 1 - Non-negotiable: 1. Token quality - Is this a legitimate project? Audited? Team doxxed? Track record? 2. Smart contract risk - Is the pool contract audited? Any exploits in the protocol's history?
Tier 2 - Performance metrics: 3. Liquidity - Minimum $500K for stables, $1M+ for volatile pairs (prevents slippage/manipulation) 4. Volume - High volume = real usage, not just mercenary liquidity chasers 5. Fees - Matter less than you think if the pool is quality
Tier 3 - Returns: 6. APR - This should be LAST on your list, not first
Why APR is a trap:
High APR often means: - New/unproven protocol (higher risk) - Inflationary token rewards (selling pressure kills your gains) - Low liquidity (you're exit liquidity for early farmers)
I've seen people chase 100%+ APR only to lose 50% to impermanent loss or rugpulls.
Better approach: Find established pools (Uniswap, Curve, Balancer) with proven tokens, decent liquidity, and "boring" 8-15% APR. You'll sleep better.
To answer your fee question:
Fees affect APR directly - high fees = more yield to LPs. But low fees can still work if volume is massive (Uniswap v3 USDC/ETH is low fee, huge volume, solid returns).
The real question: Is the APR sustainable, or is it inflated by emissions that will dump on you?

Ive been researching and been interested in the defi space for a while especially liquidity provision. Hey everyone, I’d like to hear some experienced perspectives on timing exit decisions for LP positions.
I opened a SOL/USDT position with around $1,700 USDT when SOL was trading near $230. During the early October crash, the price dropped and went out of range. I decided to keep the position open and just waited. As of October 28, I finally closed it.
Now I’m questioning whether I managed that correctly. When your position goes out of range, what do you usually do?
- Do you wait for the price to re-enter the range (and if so, how long)?
- Do you close as soon as it moves out of range?
- Or do you anticipate and close before it fully exits?
I’d appreciate hearing how seasoned liquidity providers handle this, especially with volatile assets like SOL. Do you base decisions mostly on technical setups, volatility forecasts, or fee performance over time?

Hello everyone, now I'm new into crypto industry as deep technological understanding on it, but I'm a good mathematician and kinda 'junior' programmer.
The point of this post is that I had an idea to make a unified algorithmic pipeline to dynamically manage risk and returns by evaluating macro market volatility to gate entries, times execution based on DEX/CEX price divergences, calculating optimal fee-earning ranges using statistical modeling, and continuously scores risk-to-reward to automate position entries and exits, complete with an optional mempool layer to pre-position ahead of large whale trades.
Now the thing here is, I need somebody to tell me if this has potential or not, if not then why? I could come up with this by general research and logical sense of the market / finance objectives. However I'm not deeply aware of how is this working technology.
I have the algorithm currently running and testing, and I would like to debate with someone or share opinions on this topic. Whether is cooperation intended or just in favor of exploring different ideas. Any feedback on this is welcome :)

Your checklist must be something like that: What chain, DEX, pair, fee tier? What time frame? What risk tolerance? What profit target? What initial capital? What minimum engangement?
most people underestimate how much time it takes to track fee APR versus impermanent loss together, you really need to look at both at same time not separate
for finding where liquidity concentrates, on-chain analytics dashboards show you historical volume to TVL ratios which tells you which pools actually generate fees worth your capital, high TVL alone means nothing if volume is low

has to be real volume though so things like Organic Score are useful
Whether the pool is auto-compounded or not. I rather have auto-compounding for long term lp's.
Is it concentrated liquidity or full range
How long do you want to stake, how much often do you want to manage, or do you want to set and forget. Which all is important for choosing the right pook and strategy.
Good Strategy almost the same as I do. I start with stables or the biggest majors with big volume. LP is still something to manage since some returns are getting crushed by routing and volatility unless the pair has real flow and a tight reason to exist.
I would start with the boring question. Are you trying to earn fees or are you accidentally making a directional bet on both assets? A lot of LP strategies look good until you compare them against just holding the tokens. Track fees, impermanent loss, incentives, and exit liquidity separately.
I had a eth/usdc pool opened up before this big crypto crash and I decided to exit out after 2 days being out of range. Im just curios how do I move forward? My initial parameters before entering a LP would be based of market ranges but this market is quite uncertain currently. So im just confused. What do you reccomend for me, and what are other LP'ers doing right now?

i'd start with a wider range and a smaller position until you understand how often it moves out of range. i also check jumper earn for less hands-on alternatives because active liquidity management can become a part-time job.
I've been in crypto since before DeFi existed (2013), and I've seen every type of rug pull, exploit, and "oops we got hacked" scenario you can imagine. These days I run a DeFi scanner that analyzes opportunities across 40+ chains, and I've learned to spot bad setups from a mile away.
Most people focus on APY. I focus on red flags. Here are the 3 things that make me immediately close the tab:
🚩 Red Flag #1: The "Trust Me Bro" Audit
If the protocol proudly displays an audit from a firm you've never heard of, that's a problem. Real security firms (Trail of Bits, OpenZeppelin, Consensys Diligence) have public track records.
Even worse: protocols that say "audit coming soon" or link to a PDF that's just a checklist someone filled out. An audit from an unknown firm is often worse than no audit—it creates false confidence.
What I do instead: I check if the code is open-source and look at the GitHub activity. Active development + community scrutiny > sketchy audit report.
🚩 Red Flag #2: Insane APYs With No Clear Source
If you see 200% APY on a stablecoin pool, ask yourself: where is that money coming from?
Sustainable yields come from:
- Trading fees (Uniswap, Curve)
- Lending interest (Aave, Compound)
- Real revenue (GMX, Gains Network)
Unsustainable yields come from:
- Token emissions (printing money to pay you)
- Ponzi mechanics (using new deposits to pay old users)
- "Leverage" that's actually just hidden risk
What I do instead: I only consider pools where I can trace the yield back to actual economic activity. If the math doesn't math, I'm out.
🚩 Red Flag #3: Anonymous Team + Locked Liquidity Theater
I see this constantly: "Liquidity locked for 6 months! Team doxxed!"
But when you dig deeper:
- The "doxxed" team is 3 anime avatars with Twitter accounts from last month
- The liquidity lock is on a sketchy platform or has admin keys
- The team controls a massive token supply that ISN'T locked
Real projects don't need to constantly remind you they're legit. Curve, Aave, Uniswap—they never needed to prove they weren't rugs. The code and track record speak for themselves.
What I do instead: I look at time in market (6+ months minimum), TVL stability (not just high, but STABLE), and whether the team has shipped multiple products successfully.
The Bottom Line:
Most DeFi "opportunities" are just risk dressed up as yield. The pools that survive long-term are boring: established protocols, reasonable APYs, transparent mechanics.
I track these red flags systematically across hundreds of pools. Most days it's boring - established protocols with reasonable yields. But boring is safe. Happy to answer questions about specific protocols if anyone wants a second opinion.
